PET Insulation

Insulation sheets are commonly placed inside batteries to prevent short circuits between the positive and negative terminals. PET insulation is one of several available types. The following provides an introduction.

PET insulation gaskets are highly crystalline, milky-white or pale-yellow polymers with smooth, glossy surfaces. They are placed beneath battery covers; argon-arc welding may be used to improve cover-weld reliability. PET offers strong physical and mechanical performance across a wide temperature range, with long-term operation up to 120°C, excellent electrical insulation even at high temperature and frequency, and good creep, fatigue and abrasion resistance and dimensional stability.

PET insulation features: 1. Good mechanical properties, impact strength three to five times that of other films, folding endurance, high transparency, UV blocking and gloss. It resists oils, fats, dilute acids and alkalis and most solvents. PET is odorless and described as non-toxic and suitable for food packaging. Low gas and water-vapor permeability provides barriers to gas, water, oil and odors. 2. Good high- and low-temperature performance: long-term use up to 120°C, short-term exposure to 150°C and low-temperature resistance down to −70°C, with limited effects on mechanical properties.

3. PET insulation gaskets are transparent, tough, rigid, impact-resistant plastic products with good oil and chemical resistance. Their smooth surfaces are free of ripples, crystal spots and stress whitening. Applications include thermoforming, folding boxes, packaging, printing and cards. 4. PET sheets provide dimensional stability, flatness, high tear strength, heat and cold resistance, moisture and water resistance, chemical and abrasion resistance, and excellent electrical insulation.

5. High strength, temperature resistance and insulation performance support use in electromechanical, electronics and communications applications. Low thermal shrinkage and good high-temperature dimensional stability maintain flatness after heating. Applications include flexible circuit boards in automotive dashboards, game consoles, calculators, digital cameras and household appliances.
